The value of Croatian merchandise exports in 2023 amounted to 22.8 billion euros, which is 5.3 percent less compared to 2022, while imports fell by six percent to 39.4 billion euros, according to the first data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) published on Thursday.
The foreign trade deficit thus amounted to 16.5 billion euros in 2023, with import coverage by exports at 58 percent. In 2022, the coverage was 57.6 percent.
According to the first data from the DZS, goods worth 15.5 billion euros were exported to EU member states last year, which is 6.7 percent less than in the previous year. The value of imported goods from EU member states increased by 2.1 percent to 30.2 billion euros.
Statistics for exports to non-EU countries recorded a decrease of 2.1 percent to 7.4 billion euros, alongside a simultaneous decline in merchandise imports from non-EU countries by 25.4 percent to 9.2 billion euros.
The DZS also published other corrected data on merchandise trade for the eleven months of 2023, showing that exports during this period decreased by 4.8 percent to 21.1 billion euros compared to the same period in 2022, while imports fell by five percent to 36.5 billion euros.
According to the new data, the foreign trade deficit in the eleven months of 2023 amounted to 15.4 billion euros, with import coverage by exports at 57.7 percent.
