Croatian Citizens Plan Winter Vacations and Spend More Than Last Year

Two-thirds of Croatian citizens, or 69 percent, plan to travel for winter vacations this year, primarily abroad and for skiing, spending an average of one week and spending more than last year, according to a survey by the MojPosao portal on the occasion of the ‘Croatian Ski Week’.

This survey on winter vacations was conducted by MojPosao on a sample of 400 respondents aged over 16, and of the two-thirds or 69 percent of citizens planning winter vacations, more than half or 53 percent intend to go on winter vacations multiple times during the winter season.

‘Winter vacations last shorter than summer vacations, but they cost more,’ researchers note, confirming this with data from the survey that 43 percent of respondents believe they will spend more on winter vacations than on summer vacations, while 29 percent plan to spend the same as during summer vacations.

Twenty-eight percent plan to spend less on winter vacations than on summer vacations, primarily those who go on shorter trips and travel more frequently within Croatia.

In foreign countries, significantly higher spending on winter vacations than in Croatia

The majority of respondents who will travel in the winter months, or 83 percent, said they are going on winter vacations, while a smaller portion, or 17 percent, plan trips not related to winter joys but to warmer destinations.

The most common duration of the planned winter vacation is one week, as stated by 33 percent, while 27 percent will stay for a shorter period, two to three days, and 28 percent for four to five days.

Only a smaller number of surveyed citizens, 10 percent, decide to go on winter vacations in Croatia, most likely, as estimated by the MojPosao portal, due to the small number of ski resorts, and the majority will travel to Austria, Italy, Slovenia, France, and Bosnia and Herzegovina for that purpose.

There is a significant difference in spending, as among those planning to go abroad for winter vacations, one in five respondents said they intend to spend more than 2,000 euros, while those vacationing in Croatia will spend less, with every second person stating they will allocate up to 500 euros for that.

– Considering the prices of winter vacations, it is not surprising that winter vacations are not financed from the salary paid for the month in which the winter vacation is taken, but are most often ‘grabbed’ from savings, about 82 percent of respondents. Also, contrary to popular belief, most do not go on winter vacations ‘on credit’ or in installments, as only 1 or 8 percent of citizens do so, according to MojPosao.

Those who do not go on winter vacations do so primarily due to a lack of money, 66 percent, while 26 percent said they are not interested in winter vacations at all, and 12 percent do not have vacation days for that.
