At HZZ at the end of November 113,250 unemployed, 2.5 percent less than last year

At the end of November, the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ) registered 113,250 unemployed persons, which is 2,939 persons or 2.5 percent less than in November last year, according to data from HZZ published on Tuesday.

The number of unemployed increased by 3,361 persons or 3.1 percent compared to October.

According to daily data from HZZ, there are currently 113,059 unemployed registered at the Service, and 16,340 job vacancies have been advertised.

During November, a total of 16,400 persons were newly registered in the HZZ unemployment records, which is 3.2 percent less than in November last year. Of these, 79.7 percent or 13,080 persons came directly from employment. In the unemployment records last month, 2,584 persons (15.8 percent) entered from inactivity, and 736 persons (4.5 percent) from regular schooling.

According to HZZ data, 13,039 persons left the unemployment records in November, which is 1.2 percent more than in November 2022. Of these, 9,492 persons were employed, of which 8,451 persons or 89 percent based on establishing an employment relationship and 1,041 persons or 11 percent based on other business activities.

Recorded employment based on an employment relationship was most common in wholesale and retail trade – 1,279 persons or 15.1 percent. This was followed by the manufacturing industry with 1,261 persons (14.9 percent), education with 966 persons (11.4 percent), and accommodation, food preparation, and serving with 861 persons (10.2 percent).

In November, 3,547 persons left the unemployment records for other reasons in accordance with the law, e.g., leaving the labor force (retirement, enrollment in regular schooling), non-compliance with legal provisions (not actively seeking work, unavailable for work), deregistration from the records, etc.

Among the counties, the leading employment was in Split-Dalmatia County (1,235 persons or 14.6 percent of the total number of employed based on establishing an employment relationship), the City of Zagreb (1,211 persons or 14.3 percent), Osijek-Baranja County (825 persons or 9.8 percent), and Zagreb County (501 persons or 5.9 percent).

The largest absolute number of registered unemployed persons was recorded in Split-Dalmatia County (20,333 or 18 percent of the total in Croatia), Osijek-Baranja County (14,193 or 12.5 percent), and the City of Zagreb (12,082 or 10.7 percent), while the smallest was in Lika-Senj County (1,354 or 1.2 percent).

In November, 21,903 persons or 19.3 percent of the total number of unemployed received cash benefits. The number of cash benefit recipients decreased compared to the same month last year by 5.2 percent or 1,190 persons.
