Mark Zuckerberg sold Meta shares for the first time in two years

Mark Zuckerberg sold shares of his company Meta Platforms worth approximately 190 million dollars in November, marking his first sale since 2021. In filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, more than 500,000 shares were sold.

Meta shares experienced a crash in 2022 but have practically erased those losses after a 166% increase. As a result, Zuckerberg has once again secured a spot among the top 10 on Bloomberg’s billionaire index. More specifically, he ranked ninth on the wealth index with an estimated net worth of 116 billion dollars. Meta is one of the so-called ‘magnificent seven’ stocks alongside shares like Tesla and Nvidia, which are responsible for a lion’s share of the S&P 500’s gains this year.

Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have pledged to donate 99% of their Meta shares to charity during their lifetime. Zuckerberg first signed the Giving Pledge, a philanthropic commitment led by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, in 2010.

Not the only one

Other high-profile tech company executives have made significant stock transactions this year. Apple CEO Tim Cook sold 13% of his stake in the iPhone maker for about 42 million dollars in October, marking his largest stock sale in over two years. Meanwhile, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos bought one share of the e-commerce giant in May — marking his first purchase in over two decades.
