The team behind Dogecoin announced exciting news on X last week, revealing that Astrobotic has scheduled the launch of a physical DOGE to the Moon.
A representative physical coin will be placed in the DHL Moonbox and transported via ULA’s Vulcan rocket on December 23, 2023.
Dogecoin to the Moon, but literally
The initiative dates back to a fundraising campaign in the Dogecoin community launched in 2015. The cryptocurrency’s journey to the Moon will now be realized through collaborative efforts with Astrobotic, a space company owned by employees specializing in advanced navigation, operational, energy, testing, and computing systems for spacecraft.
Astrobotic has established itself as a prominent company in the space exploration sector by developing a suite of technologies and systems tailored for lunar missions. The company’s range of lunar landers and rovers is dedicated to transporting cargo to the Moon on behalf of various entities, including companies, governments, universities, non-profit organizations, and individuals.
Recognized as an American hub for suborbital and lunar exploration, Astrobotic’s testing facilities and ground landers play a key role in enhancing global access to space. The upcoming launch of the DHL Moonbox, carrying a physical Dogecoin to the Moon, is set to take place on ULA’s Vulcan Centaur rocket in December.
