Renault has announced that it will soon introduce a new electric Twingo priced up to 20,000 euros, without subsidies, joining another French manufacturer, Citroën, in the race for the electric vehicle market.
The small city car will be available in the European market in 2026. Renault announced the new model a month after Citroën unveiled its electric vehicle ë-C3 priced at 23,300 euros and promised a version for 19,990 euros by early 2025.
Renault also presented the first prototype of the new Twingo. With round front lights and a rounded rear, it resembles the lines of the model launched in 1993, which has since sold over 2.5 million units.
The new electric Twingo is expected to be completed in less than three years.
No information has been released about battery life, but the manufacturer promises a very low consumption of 10 kWh/100 km, which is almost half that of most electric vehicles.
The electric Twingo is expected to emit 75 percent less CO2 during its lifecycle compared to the average of current vehicles.
The new Twingo will be produced in Europe, but not in France, rather in Slovenia’s Novo Mesto, where today’s Twingo models are assembled.
Ampere, a new subsidiary of Renault, will introduce seven models by 2031: electric Mégane, Scenic, R5 and R4, Twingo, and two additional models.
