In the heart of the Gorski region, in the municipality of Fužine, where nature speaks its silent language, a humanitarian initiative called ‘Plant a Fir, Save a Bee’ will be realized.
This commendable action represents a continuation of reforestation that began with fundraising at the Medun Fest, and is organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Fužine, the Tourism Office of the Municipality of Fužine, and the Beekeeping Association ‘Medun’ Delnice.
On Saturday, November 18, starting at 9 a.m., 250 seedlings of spruce and fir will be planted on the Čoka peninsula, by Lake Bajer and at the Plasa sledding area in Vratima. By financing the seedlings of fir and spruce, the community is participating in the restoration of forest resources, crucial for the production of high-quality beekeeping products – medun.
David Bregovac, the mayor of the Municipality of Fužine, called on citizens to join him in the reforestation action. He emphasized that these actions provide children with quality educational and work support in a natural environment, allowing them to learn about, among other things, the importance of forests for clean air and water, protection against soil erosion, creating habitats for wildlife, and their impact on economic values, along with providing numerous opportunities for recreation.
Medun, an indigenous product of this area, is obtained from honeydew that bees bring into the hive and process. Besides being extremely beneficial for the human body, with an abundance of antioxidants, amino acids, and minerals, it promotes heart preservation, strengthens the circulatory system, and helps regenerate respiratory organs.
