The value of Croatian merchandise exports in the first nine months of this year amounted to 16.88 billion euros, which is 4.5 percent less compared to the same period in 2022, while imports fell by 4.9 percent to 29.6 billion euros, according to the first data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) published on Thursday.
The foreign trade deficit in the first nine months amounted to 12.7 billion euros, and the coverage of imports by exports was 57 percent. At the same time last year, it was 56.8 percent.
According to the first data from the DZS, goods worth 11.48 billion euros were exported to EU member states in the first nine months of this year, which is 5.6 percent less than in the same period last year. The value of imported goods from EU member states increased by 2.8 percent to 22.37 billion euros.
Statistics for exports to non-EU countries recorded a decline of 2.2 percent to 5.39 billion euros, alongside a simultaneous decline in merchandise imports from non-EU countries by 22.9 percent to 7.22 billion euros.
The DZS also published other corrected data on merchandise trade for the first eight months of this year, showing that exports fell by 1.2 percent to 15 billion euros, while imports fell by 3.1 percent to 26.5 billion euros.
According to the new data, the foreign trade deficit in the first eight months of 2023 amounted to 11.5 billion euros, and the coverage of imports by exports was 56.7 percent.
