It Seems That There Is No More Parasitism on Someone Else’s Netflix in Croatia

After more than a year of regular warnings and announcements, it seems that Netflix has finally launched an action against password sharing in Croatia. Namely, there is an increasing number of domestic users reporting that they can no longer connect to the most popular streaming platform because they are not part of the same household as the owner of the Netflix account.

Anyone who shares their Netflix login account with family members or friends who do not live at the same address will have to pay extra for each new person who joins on a different device.

We remind you that Netflix announced a few months ago that as many as 100 million people worldwide use their subscription streaming service without paying for their own accounts. Critics of the action have also activated, of course, arguing that the platform does not take into account non-traditional families, jobs, and limited incomes.

For example, if a child lives in a student dormitory, they will have to pay for an additional profile because they are no longer in the same household, and the same applies to anyone who primarily logs in from outside the main household address, comments that have been piling up on Reddit in recent days.

Streaming companies have changed their business models over the past year in the fight against rising competition and the reality that most people cannot afford subscriptions to multiple services at the same time. Many have raised their prices as a result, including Prime Video, Netflix, Apple TVPlus… But no other company has yet started sharing accounts in the same way.

In April, Netflix also announced that it is discontinuing its DVD subscription service, which sent physical discs to customers by mail. This is an offer that has existed since the company’s founding, but it has also ended up in the archives, along with millions of users who can no longer enjoy everything Netflix offers its subscribers for free.
