On the current ‘shame list’ of the Tax Administration, or the largest tax debtors, we have a new champion. This is the company OMS – Management, known to the public from the gas affair worth around one billion kuna, owned by two suspects for malversations Goran Husić and Josip Šurjak. As of the last day of October, it owes 61.39 million euros!
The company sent a statement providing context for this amount and attached tax cards from February 1 and March 1 of this year with a surplus of over ten million euros. They claim that it is evident from this that the company OMS-Management d.o.o. was significantly overpaid in taxes even six months after the ‘unfounded opening of an investigation by USKOK, which completely extinguished any business activity of the said company’.
Furthermore, OMS – Management states that, despite the aforementioned, it should be emphasized that the blocked funds are more than sufficient to settle all due tax obligations, including those for additional profit tax (extra profit tax). In this regard, it was proposed to the prosecuting authorities that this money be transferred to the Tax Administration’s account to close the due tax debt; however, this proposal went unanswered, claim OMS – Management, concluding that they are not on the list of tax debtors by their own will, or by their choice not to pay due tax obligations, ‘but solely due to the fact that the competent authorities do not want to settle the said debt from the blocked funds that are still, for that purpose, on the account’.
According to the Tax Administration’s statement, there are 1541 debtors on the list with debts greater than 39,816.84 euros (300,000 kuna), who owe a total of 550.34 million euros. However, the list published 1519 debtors, with a total debt of 543 million euros, which means that the Tax Administration has hidden some debtors again this year, 22 of them who owe a total of 7.33 million euros.
Among the ten largest, five are old debtors (who were also on the list last year). These are three companies in bankruptcy – Damex construction, Ante construction, and Dalmacijavino, as well as Gran sol Adria and Mamit systems. The latter is the only one of the ‘natives’ that has significantly increased its tax debt – from 5.68 million euros to 7.81 million.
