Currently there are no complaints from Croatian transporters regarding the reintroduction of controls at border crossings with Slovenia, says Dragutin Kranjčec, president of the Association of Croatian Road Transporters, for Hina.
Kranjčec states that Croatian transporters were aware that such a situation could occur.
– Since the introduction of free passage, we knew that controls could be reintroduced due to certain circumstances. However, for now, there are no complaints from our members. Most vehicles pass freely, and only some are being checked – says Kranjčec.
He adds that it is what it is and that one must come to terms with it, showing understanding for Slovenia’s decision.
– Croatian transporters agree with this. They did not introduce controls because of us transporters or Croatian citizens, but due to other reasons. Look at what is happening around the world, controls are stricter, in my opinion, due to the uncontrolled influx of migrants. There is a lot going on, and it is clear that we all must protect our countries and citizens. It is not good for anyone to enter our countries as they please – emphasized Kranjčec.
He believes that the enhanced controls at the border with Slovenia could last for two months.
Let us recall that after a large number of immigrants and fears of terrorism, several European Union countries have introduced additional controls at their borders, including Italy towards Slovenia due to fears of terrorism. Slovenia introduced measures towards Croatia and Hungary last weekend for ten days.
The Slovenian Ministry of the Interior emphasized that the barriers at border crossings will be adjusted to traffic, so the control at the border with Croatia will be the same as that with Hungary. Police will check the documents of individuals and the justification for crossing the border, all in the interest of preventing terrorism and extremism, the Slovenians stated.
