More than 16 million euros is being invested in the modernization of Zadar Airport

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković and the Director of Zadar Airport Josip Klišmanić signed a contract on Monday for the project of executing works at Zadar Airport worth more than 16 million euros.

This is a project for the Electrification and Ecologization of the aircraft acceptance and dispatch system at Zadar Airport, which is co-financed from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NPOO).

– The National Recovery and Resilience Plan has opened the door for financing new and unique projects at the European level. About ten million euros in non-repayable funds is a significant step for Zadar Airport, as airports globally are ceasing to be subjects of European financing – commented Butković.

He emphasized that the project at Zadar Airport continues the policy of reducing harmful environmental impacts and greening operations, and that this airport, as one of the most promising in Croatia, stands at a turning point in its future development and operations.

The Director of Zadar Airport Josip Klišmanić stated that with the completion of the project, a new system of electrification and ecologization of the aircraft acceptance and dispatch system at Zadar Airport will begin.

– Renewable energy sources will provide power for the increasing number of passengers and aircraft landing in Zadar. It should be noted that this is the only project at the European Union level where non-repayable financing relates to air traffic – he emphasized.

He added that Zadar Airport has doubled its traffic in five years.

– Announcements of trends in the coming years obligate us to provide better and greener passenger reception. Therefore, by the end of the year, we will repeat the tender for works on the first phase of the renovation of our infrastructure, the terminal building – said Klišmanić.

Zadar County Prefect Božidar Longin stated that more than a million passengers have passed through Zadar Airport this season.

– After the renovation of the runway, transoceanic flights will also come to Zadar, which will ensure economic growth for our region and restore Zadar’s historical position as a crossroads of routes – asserted Longin.

After Zadar, Minister Butković will visit Sukošan, where he will tour the project of arranging part of the coastal area of Sukošan port, co-financed by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, as well as the project for the rehabilitation of the maritime good Šulterova vala/Obala Alfreda Lisice in Bibinje, and then he will also participate in a meeting on the conceptual project for the construction of a railway bypass for the settlement of Bibinje.
