The government has adopted a conclusion regarding the energy renovation of family houses and multi-apartment buildings worth a total of 225 million euros, which mandates that revenues from the sale of greenhouse gas emissions be used for the energy renovation of these facilities.

The conclusion tasks the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, in cooperation with the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, to secure funds in the amount of 50 million euros in 2023 for the purpose of energy renovation of family houses and 25 million euros for the energy renovation of family houses of citizens at risk of energy poverty.

In 2024, they are tasked with securing funds in the amount of 70 million euros for the energy renovation of family houses.

The funds will be secured from revenues obtained from the sale of emission units in the Republic of Croatia.

At the same time, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, in cooperation with the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, is tasked with securing up to 80 million euros for the energy renovation of multi-apartment buildings in 2024 and 2025.

In total, therefore, it is about 225 million euros, said Deputy Prime Minister Branko Bačić, adding that in addition to these funds, the government has secured another 904 million euros for the renovation of multi-apartment buildings and family houses in the area affected by the Zagreb and Petrinja earthquakes through an annex to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

By June 2026, it is planned to renovate 1.7 million square meters of residential space in Croatia, said Bačić.

He noted that construction is the largest energy consumer in Croatia, consuming 50 percent of total energy, and contributes 15 percent to greenhouse gas emissions, so it is necessary to enter into the energy renovation of buildings.

According to him, energy renovation will reduce energy consumption, contribute to decarbonization, and help households reduce their energy bills.
