In commercial accommodation in August 2023, tourists had access to 422 thousand rooms, apartments, and camping sites, with 1.1 million permanent beds, or 2.1 percent more than in the same month of 2022, while overnight stays in this accommodation in August were 2.3 percent less or 27 million, according to DZS data.
Although with fewer overnight stays, in August 2023, 11.3 percent more tourists visited commercial accommodation facilities than in August 2022, or 4.4 million, of which the majority, or 4 million, were foreign tourists.
This means that the number of foreign arrivals in these facilities was 1.3 percent higher than in last August, but they achieved 2.6 percent fewer overnight stays or 25 million.
Domestic tourists in commercial accommodation numbered 373 thousand, or 2 percent more than in last August, and they also achieved a 1.2 percent increase with 2 million overnight stays.
In the first eight months, 76 million commercial overnight stays
In the first eight months, tourist traffic in commercial accommodation facilities was positive for both domestic and foreign tourists, with a total of 15.3 million arrivals, or 8.2 percent more than in the first eight months of last year.
The achieved 76 million overnight stays represent a 2 percent increase, with foreign tourists typically ‘participating’ with the most overnight stays, totaling 69.5 million, which is also a 2 percent increase compared to the first eight months of last year. In the first eight months, 13.4 million foreign tourists visited these facilities, which is 8.5 percent more than in the same period last year.
Domestic tourist arrivals in these facilities in the first eight months of this year numbered 1.8 million, representing a 6.1 percent increase, and they also achieved 3.5 percent more overnight stays or 6.4 million.
Fewer overnight stays in August from most major markets, increases only from Austria and Hungary
Regarding the arrivals of foreign tourists in commercial accommodation in August this year, the DZS (Croatian Bureau of Statistics) highlights that this is the third consecutive month in which a decline in overnight stays from Germany has been recorded, which constitutes the majority of total foreign overnight stays.
