With a record number of over a thousand registered participants, at today’s opening of the gathering of the most eminent experts in the field of electrical engineering, it was emphasized that accelerated energy transformation processes impose demands and needs for the modernization of the existing electricity distribution and transmission network to which numerous new production capacities from renewable energy sources are rapidly connecting, along with electric cars and heat pumps. Parallel to the transformation processes, the electricity market reform is taking place, bringing legislative frameworks to ensure that all these processes run smoothly and contribute to economic growth and societal development.

However, this accelerated pace of development is impossible without top professional staff and continuous professional development, which is, after all, one of the fundamental tasks of the Croatian Chamber of Electrical Engineers.

– The tradition of the electrical engineering profession in the Republic of Croatia has always been at a commendable level, and we hope that the current moments of unprecedented rapid development of new technological solutions in all components of the electricity system and generally electrical engineering components will not be a barrier to maintaining and improving it. The Croatian Chamber of Electrical Engineers has set the popularization of the concept of lifelong education and continuous professional development as one of its goals, and we have thus prepared a series of interesting and engaging lectures on current trends for these Days – stated the president of HKIE Natko Vučković.

The central themes of the gathering over the next two days are current and related to energy issues, renewable energy sources, and the practical implementation of the legal frameworks defined by the recently adopted Electricity Market Act and the Renewable Energy Sources Act, as well as recently adopted subordinate legislation and network rules for connecting renewable energy sources to the HEP ODS and HOPS networks.

These subordinate acts should finally accelerate the halted large number of investments in renewable energy sources, significantly changing the position of entrepreneurs, but also households in terms of liberalizing the processes of electricity production and sales. All this places not only HEP but also designers and supervisory engineers who are members of the Croatian Chamber of Electrical Engineers, as well as the Ministry of Construction, before the demanding task of important simplification of procedures and acceleration of the process to the final connection of power plants to the grid and realization of the benefits that such investments bring to their owners.

Traditionally, this year’s sponsors of this professional gathering, along with the relevant Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and State Property, are also the President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović, Split-Dalmatia County, the Municipality of Bol, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split, and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Information Technologies in Osijek.
