Disney convincingly the strongest in the world in licensed merchandise sales

Every year, License Global invites intellectual property owners to submit data on revenues from licensed merchandise and their formulas for the previous year. This year’s report on the retail of licensed consumer products and services in 2022 showed sales results amounting to as much as 278 billion dollars.

The top 20 of 84 brands listed in the report together generated 230 billion dollars. To make things even more interesting, the top ten brands alone generated 189 billion dollars and recorded an average growth rate of 20 percent compared to the previous year, with individual companies recording annual growth of as much as 61 percent.

According to License Global, Disney’s merchandise sales worldwide amounted to 61.7 billion dollars in 2022, which is almost double that of the second-placed Dotdash Meredith. Essentially, this means that Disney earned the most money from licensed merchandise of any other company in the world. This merchandise includes both their own items (which Disney sells directly) and items from any other company that uses the Disney brand (such as Funko POPs).
