The new academic year at the Algebra College begins with a record number of as many as two thousand enrolled students, making it one of the five largest Croatian institutions offering professional studies. As they announced, this represents an increase in the number of ‘freshmen’ of as much as 15 percent compared to the previous academic year.

The start of the academic year at this institution has been marked for the second consecutive year by the ‘Welcome Day’, an event that gathered 650 domestic and foreign ‘freshmen’ and about fifty international exchange students.

– The figure of two thousand students that we have surpassed today is truly impressive and aligns with Algebra’s focus on innovation in the education system. This year, we launched the only short professional study in the Republic of Croatia in the field of digital technologies, we are the only educational institution in the country that has launched an undergraduate program in game development, and we are the first higher education institution to establish cooperation with the University of London, enabling all our students studying under programs evaluated by their component Goldsmiths to receive two diplomas upon graduation, our own and the British one – said Mislav Balković, dean of Algebra, at the ‘Welcome Day’.

– From this year, we are launching the Center for Academic Support for Students. Our goal is to encompass not only academic activities but also those in the professional development of students as future academic citizens – said Silvija Grgić, vice-dean for development and quality at Algebra.

As announced, Algebra’s Department for International Cooperation was also presented, especially the Erasmus+ program under which Algebra has over 100 bilateral agreements with higher education institutions in the EU and over 40 agreements and contracts for cooperation with higher education institutions outside the EU. Students have the opportunity to spend a week, several weeks, a semester, an academic year, summer or winter holidays abroad at one of Algebra’s partner institutions outside Croatia, and Algebra also organizes its own summer and winter school where foreign students can attend modules in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital marketing in Croatia.

That the Algebra College pays special attention to scientific innovations, new technologies, and start-up projects is evidenced by the activities of Algebra LAB. Its manager, Maja Brkljačić, presented them, emphasizing that the faculty is not a place solely intended for studying, but that within Algebra LAB, the successor of the oldest and first entrepreneurial incubator in the region ZIP, which has so far incubated 15 successful generations, students have the opportunity to participate in various thematic hackathons in the fields of AI, space technologies, and smart and green industries.
