The Zagreb city authorities led by Mayor Tomislav Tomašević last week invalidated four Urban Development Plans (UPU), namely Savski park – east, Savski park – west, Savska Šarengradska – north, and Savska Šarengradska – south, as reported by Jutarnji list on Thursday.
The most well-known among them in the media are UPU Savski park – west, or Little Manhattan, and UPU Savski park – east, in which one of the investors is lawyer Anto Nobilo.
– No one informed us about anything, as if it were a secret action, at least for us. I am not an urban planning expert, but the mayor and his services should communicate with citizens and investors. Their role should be service-oriented, and Zagreb should become a wealthy city. The anti-investment policy that currently prevails is not the right path – commented lawyer Anto Nobilo yesterday, reacting to the announcements by Zagreb Mayor Tomašević that four UPUs are being invalidated.
For the four plans, the city authorities assessed that they are “particularly problematic, with poor and irreparable solutions,” and thus initiated the process to invalidate them. – The idea is to invalidate them so that we can then create new urban development plans for those areas and to ensure that the built environment is placed within some sustainability parameters of the city – emphasized Tomašević, who thus invalidated, among other things, the Little Manhattan project, or Savski park – west.
Until recently, the city authorities had assured the opposition that they were obliged to respect previously issued permits, as halting that project could cost the City of Zagreb tens of millions of euros.
