In Croatia, during 2022, the construction of 15,875 apartments was completed, which is 26.9 percent more than in 2021, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).
The average usable area of an apartment was 92.1 square meters.
The majority of apartments, 94 percent, were built as new construction, 5.4 percent through extensions or upgrades of existing buildings, and 0.6 percent through the conversion of non-residential space into apartments.
By counties, the most apartments were completed in the City of Zagreb (which has the status of a county), with 3,641. This is followed by Zadar County with 2,569 apartments, Split-Dalmatia with 1,824, and more than a thousand apartments were also built last year in Istria, 1,562, and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, 1,380.
Last year, 6,809 buildings were constructed, 12.2 percent more than in 2021.
According to DZS data, 6,809 buildings were also constructed last year, which is 12.2 percent more than the previous year.
The total area of all these buildings was 3.1 million square meters, which is 26.1 percent more than in 2021.
Of the total number of buildings completed last year, 5,660 or 83.1 percent were residential, and 1,149 or 16.9 percent were non-residential, with the latter category including buildings for agricultural activities, religious ceremonies, hotels, shops, as well as industrial buildings and warehouses, and buildings for transport and communications, such as public and private garages.
By counties, the most buildings, 1,026, were completed in Zadar County, followed by Istria County with 793 buildings, Split-Dalmatia with 537, the City of Zagreb and Osijek-Baranja County with 481 buildings each, and the list of counties where the number of completed buildings in 2022 exceeds four hundred is concluded by Zagreb County with 470 and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County with 446 buildings.
