Commissioner Mt. Gox, one of the first crypto exchanges, changes creditor repayment deadline to October 2024.

Commissioner Mt. Gox Nobuaki Kobayashi has officially changed the repayment deadline for creditors of the crypto exchange from October 31, 2023, to October 31, 2024.

In a letter dated September 21, Kobayashi wrote that, with the permission of the Tokyo District Court, he has extended the deadline for the principal repayment, early lump-sum repayment, and intermediary repayment.

Additionally, Kobayashi clarified that for creditors who have provided the necessary information, repayments will be executed in order as early as the end of this year.

– Please note that the schedule is subject to change depending on circumstances, and a specific repayment time for each creditor has not yet been determined – added Kobayashi.

Currently, Mt. Gox holds approximately 142,000 bitcoins, 143,000 bitcoin cash, and 69 billion Japanese yen.

Mt. Gox was one of the earliest crypto exchanges, conducting over 70 percent of all trades within the blockchain ecosystem.

After a major hack in 2011, the site subsequently collapsed in 2014 due to alleged insolvency. The aftermath affected around 24,000 creditors and resulted in the loss of 850,000 bitcoins.
