At the end of August, there were 1.67 million employed in Croatia, which is 0.3 percent less than in July and 1.4 percent more than in August last year, with the registered unemployment rate standing at six percent, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).
In legal entities in August this year, 1,437,162 people were employed, which is a monthly decrease of 0.4 percent or 5,362 people, while compared to August last year, the increase is one percent.
According to data that DZS obtains from the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute, there were 222,324 employed in crafts and free professions at the end of August, which is 178 people or 0.9 percent less than in July. On an annual basis, the number of employed in crafts and free professions was higher by 3.8 percent.
At the same time, the number of employed insured farmers, of whom there were 18,356 at the end of August, decreased by 0.1 percent on a monthly basis, and on an annual basis, it fell by 1.6 percent.
More detailed statistics on the number of employed in legal entities show that out of 19 areas of activity for which DZS publishes data, 11 employed more workers at the end of August than at the end of the same month last year, with the highest percentage increase recorded in real estate business at five percent, to 10,201 workers, information and communication at 4.7 percent, to 57,964, and in accommodation and food service activities, i.e., hospitality and tourism, at 4.6 percent, to 108,416 employed.
