The Number of Employees in Industry Decreased on a Monthly and Annual Basis

The total number of employees in industry in July this year compared to June is down by 0.6 percent, and compared to July last year by 2.1 percent, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).

According to the National Classification of Activities (NKD), the number of employees in manufacturing has decreased by 0.7 percent on a monthly basis, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning by 0.3 percent, while in mining and quarrying it has increased by 0.1 percent.

Within the manufacturing industry, the largest decrease in the number of employees was in the production of computers and electronic and optical products, by 14.8 percent, in the production of electricity, by 5.9 percent, in the production of tobacco products, by 2.4 percent, and in the production of machinery and equipment, by 1.7 percent.

At the same time, the number of employees increased the most in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment, by 4.1 percent, in the production of chemicals and chemical products, by 1.2 percent, and in the production of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations, also by 1.2 percent.

On an annual basis, in July compared to the same month last year, the number of employees in mining and quarrying decreased by 1.6 percent, in manufacturing by 2 percent, and in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning by 1.7 percent.

Within the manufacturing industry, on an annual basis, the largest decrease in the number of employees was in the production of computers and electronic and optical products, by 15.3 percent, in the production of other transport equipment, by 13.5 percent, and in the production of textiles, by 12.9 percent.

The largest annual increase in the number of employees is recorded in the production of motor vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers, by 14.1 percent, and in the production of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations, by 7.1 percent.

The number of employees in industry in the first seven months of this year compared to the same period in 2022 decreased by 0.8 percent.

Overall labor productivity in industry from January to July 2023 compared to the same period in 2022 is down by 0.1 percent.
