The Deputy Prime Minister of Croatia Davor Butković told reporters on Wednesday that a way to increase the volume of Ukrainian grain exports through Croatia is being considered, with the ‘limiting factor’ being the capacity of the port of Vukovar.
After Russia withdrew from the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain from Black Sea ports at the end of July, Zagreb and Kyiv reached an agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain via Croatian ports.
According to this agreement, Ukrainian grain arrives via the Danube to Vukovar and is transported to Adriatic ports for further export.
– Given that there are already contracted jobs and booked capacities in our ports, we are looking at the possibility of increasing the existing grain exports coming from Ukraine – said the Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure on Goli Otok.
– There is already a portion of Ukrainian grain being exported through our ports, mostly through the port of Rijeka – he added.
He emphasized that there are “several limiting factors,” including available capacities at the port of Vukovar and works on the Mediterranean railway corridor that passes through Croatia.
Butković will meet with the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and the Minister of Infrastructure on Monday, “so we will see by then what those capacities would be.”
– In any case, the interest is to increase that capacity. We can do it, we will do everything to make it happen, but I cannot tell you today what those quantities would be – he added.
