Viber Launches Payments in Croatia

Rakuten Viber, one of the leaders in private and secure communication via messaging and voice calls, announces that the payment feature via Viber will officially be available to all users in Croatia in the latest version of the application. With this new payment function, the platform continues its journey towards achieving super-app status by providing fast and free real-time money transfers between user accounts.

The service arrives in Croatia after the successful implementation of payment solutions in seven European countries: Germany, Greece, Cyprus, Slovakia, Lithuania, Slovenia, and Estonia, enabling users to make instant and free international transactions between these countries, with plans to expand to more countries and currencies in the future.

Users in Croatia can easily and securely request and send money to each other by setting up a digital wallet. Mobile wallets can generally be created in less than a minute through a simple registration that requires basic user information. This registration allows transactions up to 120 EUR, but with additional verification, users can send up to 4,500 EUR. A user utilizing the payment feature can also send money from their wallet to another account, even if the recipient does not yet have a Viber wallet. All these options will be available to Viber users in Croatia.

To provide licensed payment services in the first eight markets, Viber has partnered with Rapyd, a global fintech services company. Rapyd integrates its licensed payment processing services directly into the Viber application to enable in-app payments. Viber users can access various additional financial services, including:

– Viber-to-Viber payments via wallet: Within Croatia, send and receive money to your friends and family via Viber instantly and for free, even if they do not yet have a Viber wallet.

– Payments in chats: Send, request, and receive money directly in your chats in just 3 steps, as easy as sending a photo.

– Bank transfers: Send payments to any local bank account for free payment of monthly expenses such as utility bills.

– Exclusive discounts and rewards: Users will receive an exclusive badge on their profile, and Viber Out rewards with discounts sponsored by partners that will soon be available.

To start using payments on Viber, users must set up a personal identification code or biometric recognition to enable secure transactions. Payment confirmations are automatically sent with end-to-end encryption, just like all private communication on Viber. Additionally, Viber’s support team will be available to answer questions in local languages.

– The payment option now allows users to request and send money to friends and family for free without leaving the conversation in one of the most used communication applications in Croatia. This is our vision of enriching people’s lives – we create added value by introducing services that are simultaneously practical, fast, and secure – said Ritesh Shah, Vice President of FinTech and Business Solutions at Rakuten Viber.
