Croatia continues to deal with the consequences of a series of storms that have hit it in the last three weeks, but the most striking was the one on July 19 when a storm brought down trees, carried away roofs, and left numerous villages in Slavonia without electricity for almost a week.
One reader informed us that in a place near Nova Gradiška, his household was without electricity for five days, which led him to purchase a generator, but as he explained, due to the storm, it was difficult to get a generator for several days because people were buying them en masse.
We asked stores whether there has been an increase in demand and how their generator stocks are holding up.
According to data we received from Bauhaus, generator sales in Croatia have increased by 50 percent in the past few weeks.
– Regarding availability, we have generators in stock, and we can still obtain additional quantities from suppliers – they state from Bauhaus.
Pevex also confirmed that demand for generators increased after the first storm in mid-July, stating that sales rose three times compared to the average, but they claim to have enough generators.
In the days following the storm, HEP ODS made generators available for electricity production to the affected counties, and according to Hina, HEP assessed that the cost of necessary repairs amounted to around 21 million euros, while the cost of repairing the electricity network in the affected areas will be several times higher.
In the first days of damage repair, HEP ODS engaged more than 500 employees from continental Croatia, and teams from other parts of the country joined them.
Significant problems have also been caused by swollen rivers and large amounts of rain, which have led to major floods in certain parts of Croatia, but it seems that citizens do not want to risk another power outage, so they have rushed to buy their generators.
