After last week’s storm in Croatia, the popularity of forecasting apps has increased

Following the severe storm that hit Croatia last week, weather forecasting apps are currently the most popular on app stores such as Google Play and Apple Store. Among the top 10 most popular apps in Croatia, six are weather forecasting apps.

The most popular app in Croatia right now is ‘Rain Alarm’, which has over five million downloads. In second place is the app Weather & Radar, while the third place is occupied by the app Windy.com.

In fifth place is ‘Weather Radar’, and in ninth place is ‘Weather Radar Forecast & Maps’. The tenth place in the popularity ranking is taken by ‘Weather Widget & Live Radar’.

Since Wednesday, questions have been raised about whether alarms should have been sounded to declare danger and whether this should be done in similar circumstances in the future. Recall that a few years ago, a danger was announced, leading car owners to mass park their vehicles in public garages, and since the storm then bypassed Zagreb, the authorities were criticized for causing panic.

However, no one was fully prepared for the severity of last week’s storm, the consequences of which are still being addressed, and which has left villages in Slavonia without electricity for several days and caused many buildings to lose their roofs.

With strong storms forecasted again, Croatians, just like after the earthquake, are now relying on mobile apps as there are apparently no other alerts.
