Apple is working on an artificial intelligence system that is intended to compete with ChatGPT, according to a report published on Wednesday, as reported by dpa. Apple employees have named the project ‘Apple GPT‘ as they are developing a platform similar to Chat GPT, Bloomberg News reported.
Other tech giants have engaged in the AI race in various ways. Microsoft simply acquired OpenAI’s ChatGPT and used it to enhance search through Bing, while Google introduced Bard AI for its extremely popular search engine. Meta also has its own generative AI system.
Apple’s most well-known machine learning system remains its digital assistant Siri on iPhone devices. Apple’s new project utilizes its AI foundation called Ajax, according to Bloomberg. However, Ajax itself operates on Google Cloud and is built from Google JAX, a machine learning framework designed to accelerate research.
– Regulation is something that is needed in this space – said Apple’s CEO Tim Cook last month on ‘Good Morning America’.
– Regulation will be hard to align even with progress as things are moving so quickly – he added.
Various tech giants have ignored calls to slow down artificial intelligence research for social safety.
