Statistical estimates of the areas of major crops indicate that wheat has been sown on 3.8 percent more area, while areas under corn and sunflower have also increased, whereas areas under rapeseed and sugar beet have decreased.
Wheat has been sown on 164 thousand hectares, which represents an annual increase of 3.8 percent or six thousand hectares more, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).
The first estimates of the areas of major crops in 2023 also show that corn has been sown on 270 thousand hectares, which is an increase of two thousand hectares or 0.7 percent compared to the previous year.
The areas under sunflower have also increased by 3.9 percent, to 53 thousand hectares.
At the same time, the areas under rapeseed have decreased by 36.4 percent. The area under rapeseed is 14 thousand hectares, which is eight thousand hectares less than in 2021, according to DZS data.
The areas under sugar beet have also decreased by 11.1 percent, to eight thousand hectares.
Statistics show that the areas under soybean and potatoes have remained unchanged – soybean has been sown on 91 thousand hectares, and potatoes on seven thousand hectares.
The data on the first estimates of sown areas for major field crops refer to the state as of June 1 and are the first information published by DZS regarding the state of sown areas at the end of the spring sowing.
