The unemployment rate in May of this year was the lowest since 1989, emphasized Prime Minister Andrej Plenković during a government session on Wednesday.
The registered unemployment rate is 5.6 percent in May, which is the lowest rate since 1989, he stated.
According to data obtained by the State Bureau of Statistics from the Croatian Employment Service, at the end of May, there were 97,758 registered unemployed individuals, which is 7,592 persons or 7.2 percent less compared to April of this year.
The registered unemployment rate, calculated as the ratio of the number of unemployed to the total active population, was 5.6 percent in May, which is 0.5 percentage points lower than in April, according to DZS data.
On an annual basis, the number of unemployed has decreased by 11 percent.
According to DZS data, in May, there were 1,635,429 employed individuals in Croatia, which is about 27 thousand or 1.7 percent more than at the end of April this year, and 1.3 percent more on an annual basis.
Prime Minister Plenković also commented on the positive tourism indicators at the beginning of the main season.
– As of yesterday, there were 5.6 million arrivals and 20.4 million overnight stays, which is 17 and 11 percent more than last year, respectively, and tourism revenue is six percent higher than the record year of 2019 – said Plenković.
He asserted that the forecasts are being confirmed that the tourist season, after entering the euro area and Schengen zone, will be the strongest in terms of arrivals, overnight stays, and revenue, as evidenced by the increased traffic at airports and on highways.
