The police and USKOK launched an anti-corruption action on Friday, which, according to unofficial data, also involved an official from the Tax Administration.
According to unofficial information, the police, at the request of the prosecution and with a court order, raided the homes and other premises of several individuals in the Zagreb area on Friday morning.
Jutarnji list reports that among those arrested is a high-ranking official of the Tax Administration, while Večernji list specifies that it is the assistant director of the Tax Administration.
USKOK and the police have not commented on the arrests.
According to unofficial information, the tax administration official received a bribe to favor a co-suspect in a tax procedure.
After investigators collect evidence during the searches, the arrested individuals are expected to be questioned by USKOK.
This specialized department of the state attorney’s office will then decide whether to initiate an investigation against the suspects and request investigative detention, which will be determined by the investigating judge of the Zagreb County Court.
