The Croatian Economic Olympiad (CEO) is part of an international competition, namely the International Economics Olympiad (IEO), and will be held on June 20 at 1 PM (online). Approximately 100 students from 14 high schools will participate, divided into 22 teams. The registered students attend schools in Croatia that offer economic-oriented education.
– We are extremely proud of the fact that we once again have the opportunity to organize the Croatian Economic Olympiad and that we have achieved a significant number of registrations for the competition. This only supports our efforts to raise awareness about the importance of financial literacy among children and youth. I believe our teams will achieve excellent results, said Nikola Jelovečki, president of the Center for Youth Development.
The goal of the Croatian Economic Olympiad is to enable students to creatively and interestingly test and showcase their skills in the area of financial literacy. For this reason, the competition will take place through the Financial Literacy Game (FLG), in which students will simulate real-life situations. All competitors will start playing at the same time, and after registration, they must choose their character and “live” for 30 years after completing formal education. All offered characters have different characteristics that will influence their choices within the game. Throughout their character’s life, competitors will have to learn to cope with various negative impacts on financial security and make the smartest financial decisions.
