At the end of May, 222,202 citizens and 13,706 business entities in blockade

At the end of this May, 222,202 citizens in Croatia had blocked accounts with a principal debt of 2.39 billion euros, as well as 13,706 business entities, whose principal debt amounted to 588 million euros, according to data from the Financial Agency (Fina) published on Wednesday.

Due to unfulfilled payment bases, on May 31, the register of payment order bases recorded 222,202 citizens, which is 2,768 or 1.2 percent less than in the previous month, and 14,159 or 6 percent less than a year ago.

The principal of their debt amounted to 2.39 billion euros, which is 1.2 percent more compared to April, but also 2.5 percent less compared to May 2022.

According to Fina’s data, when the principal is added to the debt from interest amounting to 861 million euros, the total debt of citizens with blocked accounts at the end of May amounted to 3.25 billion euros.

Fina emphasized that the largest part of the debt, amounting to 670 million euros (excluding interest), related to consumer debt to banks as creditors, while the total debt to all financial institutions amounted to 770 million euros.

At the end of May, the register of payment order bases recorded 13,706 business entities, which is 299 or 2.1 percent less compared to April, as well as 1,448 entities or 9.6 percent less compared to May last year.

The principal debt of business entities amounted to 588.1 million euros, which is 61.7 million or 11.7 percent more compared to April and 9.8 million euros or 1.7 percent more compared to May 2022.

The debt from interest amounted to 143 million euros, so the total debt of business entities at the end of April amounted to 731.3 million euros.

Fina’s data shows that out of 13,706 business entities that did not settle due payment bases, 5,786 were legal entities (42.2 percent).

The principal of their debt amounted to 427.1 million euros, and when interest of 91 million euros is added, the total debt of legal entities amounted to 518.1 million euros.

At the end of May, 7,920 individuals engaged in registered activities also had blocked accounts, and their total debt amounted to 213 million euros, of which 161 million relates to the principal, and 52 million to interest.

According to Fina’s data, compared to April, the number of legal entities that did not settle due payment bases is 3.5 percent lower, while the amount of unfulfilled bases is 17.9 percent higher. The total number of individuals is 1.1 percent lower, and the amount of their unfulfilled bases is 2 percent.
