German investor sentiment improved slightly in June, reported the ZEW Institute for Economic Research, warning that export-oriented sectors are struggling with a weak global economy.
Although improved by 2.2 points compared to May, the ZEW investor sentiment index remained in negative territory, at minus 8.5 points, the institute reported.
– Experts do not foresee an improvement in the economic situation in the second half of the year – said ZEW President Achim Wambach.
The atmosphere in the economy stabilized after three months of deterioration and sliding into recession in the first quarter under pressure from weaker household consumption affected by high inflation.
The European Central Bank (ECB) is trying to curb strong price growth by raising interest rates, and most investors in the ZEW survey predict that monetary policy in the eurozone will not change direction.
The American central bank is likely to keep them at the current level, they estimate, according to the ZEW report.
