Commercial Accommodation in the First Four Months with 20 Percent More Overnight Stays

In commercial accommodation facilities, two million tourists arrived in the first four months, which is 30.4 percent more than in the same period last year, achieving 5.3 million overnight stays, an increase of 19.6 percent, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS), which also shows that in April alone, there were 20.4 percent more overnight stays in these facilities.

The majority of arrivals and overnight stays pertain to foreign tourists, of whom 1.4 million came in the first four months, achieving 4 million overnight stays, surpassing the same months in 2022 by 37.1 and 22.1 percent, respectively.

The highest share of total foreign overnight stays, or 17.1 percent, was achieved by Slovenians, followed by Germans with 16 percent and Austrians with 11.4 percent, while Italians and tourists from the United Kingdom were close to 10 percent share in overnight stays, with all these countries recording more overnight stays than in the first four months of 2022.

Domestic tourists in the first four months of this year in commercial accommodation were similar to Slovenians, with 615 thousand or 17.5 percent more than the same time last year, while their 1.3 million overnight stays represent an increase of 12.6 percent.

In April 2023, 1.1 million tourists were registered in commercial accommodation facilities, achieving 3 million overnight stays, which are increases of 31 and 20.4 percent compared to April 2022.

More foreigners came than domestic tourists, with 870 thousand or 35.6 percent more than last April, and with 2.5 million overnight stays, they are up by 21.5 percent, while 220 thousand domestic tourists in commercial facilities achieved 494 thousand overnight stays, or 15.5 percent more.

In April, the highest number of overnight stays among foreign tourists was achieved by Germans and Slovenians, followed by Austrians, Britons, and Poles, all of whom were also more numerous than last April.

Hotels recorded the highest number of overnight stays among all commercial facilities in April, accounting for almost 47 percent of the total number or 1.4 million, which is also 26 percent more than in April 2022.

In rooms, apartments, and holiday homes, there were slightly more than 27 percent of total overnight stays or 829 thousand, which is 15.2 percent more than last year.
