Taiwanese entrepreneur Doris Hsu, Executive Chairwoman of GlobalWafers, is the recipient of the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year award, according to an EY statement. Hsu received the award in Monaco, competing against 49 national winners from 45 countries worldwide, and was selected by an eight-member expert jury. Croatian entrepreneurship was represented by Vjekoslav Majetić, founder and owner of DOK-ING, who was awarded the title of the eighth Croatian EY Entrepreneur of the Year in March of this year.
Doris Hsu impressed the jury as she saw potential in materials at the forefront of the semiconductor industry – silicon wafers – and today provides innovative, advanced technological solutions to leading chip manufacturers. Her company GlobalWafers is the largest Taiwanese and the third-largest global producer of silicon wafers, and GlobalWafers’ products are an integral part of nearly all technologies in modern society.
Regarding Majetić, EY states that his DOK-ING stands out in the domestic competition not only for its excellent business results but also for its social contribution, as it produces and develops robotic systems for special purposes that protect human lives in performing the most dangerous jobs, primarily in demining, firefighting, and mining.
In recent years, Majetić has been working on the development of a new waste management facility that operates in a very environmentally friendly manner while also being economically viable, considering the products it generates that can be further utilized. Over more than three decades of operation, DOK-ING has established business cooperation with governments and ministries, non-governmental organizations and agencies, as well as commercial companies worldwide.
