The Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis (44) has everything on paper that the next American president should have. After Donald Trump, the ‘destroyer’ president who questioned all institutions and the internal American and global international order; after Joe Biden, who was elected as the president of societal reconciliation and the restoration of the international order, it is time for a new chapter. For a two-term president, with vision and operational skills, who will reunite America around common interests and become a leader of Western democracies at a time when their leadership is seriously questioned by the global rise of communist China.

Donald Trump, a successful entrepreneur and bon vivant, did not even try to do this. By his nature and business practice, he was an eliminator who pursued his goal by shortcut, without much sense for diplomacy and consensus. But he sparked a political awakening of the American and entire Western public, raised awareness of key weaknesses in the international order, warned of the danger of China’s rise, and began to bring production back from China to the USA and allied countries, awakening the awareness of Western countries about defense and energy sustainability… Joe Biden, the gray eminence of American state policy, was not elected to do anything special, but to be the one who creates allies, not Trump, who produces opponents. And with such a president, the American deep state managed to revitalize NATO, gather the Western alliance after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and begin to build a common policy towards China… But America, and then the Western world, has no leader.

A Conservative of a New Era

Is the new leader in the next stage the Republican Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis, who has been speculated about for several years and who recently officially announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination? On paper, he truly has good prerequisites for it. His resume looks like a prototype of achieving the American dream: as the child of Italian immigrants, workers (his mother a nurse, his father a technician in the TV sector), he managed to obtain degrees in history and law from the most prestigious American universities (Yale, Harvard), supported himself, among other things, by delivering furniture, and was the captain of the university baseball team.

And instead of politically (given his background) naturally leaning towards the Democratic Party, he joined the Republicans. He later explained: because he was bothered by the revolutionary leftism in university campuses. As a law graduate, he joined the U.S. Navy, served in the Iraq war, and in his early thirties ended his military career as a legal advisor to SEAL Team 1, the team for the most secret operations.

In his early thirties, he left the military, got a job in the Florida Attorney General’s office, and began his political career, first as a congressman, and now he is already in his second term as Governor of Florida. Due to his very liberal stance on restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, he became well-known across the USA. Politically, DeSantis is a conservative of a new era, an advocate for a functional rule of law, including a functional police force; an opponent of illegal immigration and a particular opponent of the radically left woke and cancel-culture movements and genderism, which is why he entered into a legal conflict with their biggest promoter, the Disney corporation, at the risk of the company moving its headquarters from Florida.

The Campaign Will Be Interesting

DeSantis’s attempt to win the White House is a natural continuation of his career. He wants to become the Ronald Reagan of a new era. With a desirable background, desirable military, political, and managerial experience, he has a few more important assets: his wife Casey Black, a former TV journalist who is said to be his chief advisor and a good candidate for First Lady; more and more former Trump donors are openly approaching him, and he is also favored by Elon Musk, whose Twitter will evidently play an important role in the campaign again.

His biggest obstacle at the moment is Donald Trump, who still leads among Republican voters. To have a chance to enter the race against Joe Biden (who has announced his intention to seek another term), he must defeat Trump, who so far is not backing down. His biggest ally is Joe Biden, both due to age and mental capacity, but also due to increasing flirtation with the radically left wing of his party. From president on paper to president in the White House, there are still many steps where DeSantis could slip. But the campaign will certainly be interesting.
