The European Commission today announced the first calls for proposals under the main work program of the Digital Europe instrument for the period 2023 and 2024 to strengthen digital technologies and competencies across the EU. Calls worth over 122 million euros are open to businesses, public administrations, and other entities from EU member states, EFTA/EEA countries, and associated countries.
This round of investment will enable the building of trust in digital transformation, with 32 million euros for projects related to a network of centers for a safer internet that will assist minors in combating online dangers and allow citizens to anonymously report online material containing child sexual abuse. Investments will also be made in the centers of the European Observatory for Digital Media that contribute to the fight against misinformation across Europe, a reference framework of the EU for energy savings that will facilitate the development of an application to help citizens reduce energy consumption, as well as IT systems to support the removal of online material containing child sexual abuse.
Additionally, 31 million euros will support projects in the data sector, including investment in the Genome for Europe project to establish a European genome database that will promote revolutionary advances in research, innovation, disease prevention, and healthcare delivery.
