Croatian representatives visited Portugal to learn about the operations of the local water supply company, which has managed to reduce water losses by 10 percent in five years, reported the Portuguese company AdRA on its website.
AdRA – Águas da Região de Aveiro – manages sewage and water supply services in the Aveiro region, in northern Portugal.
The company launched an innovative project in 2018 when it was losing 30 percent of water in the system. It reduced the loss to below 20 percent in 2022.
This rapid evolution of results attracted the attention of the sector, and in September last year, the project was presented at the World Congress of the International Water Association in Copenhagen.
Representatives of the Croatian government and the World Bank, which financially supports the Croatian water sector, visited the company together last week to learn more about its method of more efficient water management.
AdRA states that its innovative approach, the first of its kind in Portugal, is “a model of the best practices in the water sector at both national and international levels.”
The Croatian delegation visited Portugal at a time when high temperatures and droughts affected Portugal, Spain, and France, highlighting the need for rational water consumption.
