Rimac Announces Entry into the Market for Stationary Energy Storage Systems with New Brand, Rimac Energy

Rimac Technology, one of the companies within the Rimac Group, is launching the company Rimac Energy which will work on the next generation of stationary energy storage systems (Energy Storage System – ESS), with energy loss reductions of up to 50 percent on 40 percent less surface area, announced the Rimac Group on Thursday.

The product portfolio of the Rimac Energy brand includes ESS for application in the power grid, commercial and industrial sectors, as well as highly integrated solutions for electric vehicle chargers. All products are fully designed, developed, and manufactured in Europe.

This step, emphasize the Rimac Group, represents a significant milestone for the company, which is expanding beyond its strong position in high-performance electric vehicle technology by introducing innovative stationary energy storage systems. Realizing the full potential of renewable energy production and promoting the decarbonization of energy grids are linked to stationary solutions of this type.

It is noted that the Rimac Energy team, a specialized team within Rimac Technology, has been developing over the past 18 months and now consists of 60 employees – all of whom are currently working on its first generation of stationary ESS.

– Relying on the high expertise and standards demonstrated in the development and production of electric vehicles, Rimac Energy applies the same engineering philosophy in the development of stationary batteries. As a result, Rimac Energy has developed a new battery architecture that reduces losses by up to 50 percent while occupying up to 40 percent less surface area compared to state-of-the-art solutions. Additional technological advantages include extended lifespan, built-in redundancy for increased availability, as well as competitive costs of the system itself and its installation – states the Rimac Group’s announcement.

The Director of Rimac Energy Wasim Sarwar Dilov emphasizes that the company recognizes the importance of stationary battery solutions to accelerate the transition to renewable energy sources.

– Given our previous results in the field of innovative battery systems, we believe we will play a key role in building the future energy ecosystems of Europe and elevating them to a global level – highlighted Sarwar Dilov.

Initially, Rimac Energy will provide solutions in the commercial and industrial sectors, as support for the power grid, and solutions for fast and megawatt charging using batteries are already underway.

The company, emphasized Sarwar Dilov, is currently negotiating several projects with clients, including a pilot project with one of the leading companies in the field of renewable energy, which is seeking battery solutions for energy storage to support their solar and wind power plants.

Pilot systems are expected to be produced by the end of this year, with commissioning planned for 2024. Series production is expected to start in 2025 at the Rimac Campus, which is currently under construction, with a gradual increase in production capacity to tens of GWh.

The founder and CEO of the Rimac Group Mate Rimac emphasizes that there is an urgent need for clean energy infrastructure to support the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid by providing storage and energy balancing capabilities.

– Given our experience in high-performance electric vehicle technology and commitment to sustainable development, this path seems like a natural progression. Our team is truly excited about creating solutions that make clean energy more accessible while striving to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and promote a greener future – emphasized Mate Rimac.

Details about the unique technology behind the Rimac Energy brand, which is being developed and produced at the Rimac Technology facility in Zagreb, will be revealed later this year, announced the group.
