In this context, ‘Less is More’, in Kordić’s opinion, is an ode to the simplicity of living that is incredibly demonstrable, which is why he constantly returns to it and draws small wisdoms from it. ‘Let My People Go Surfing’ speaks about what is truly important in business and how a healthy culture can be achieved within the team you work with.

As someone who leads an organization based on social impact, Kordić found it incredibly refreshing to apply some lessons and observe the effects. It left a deep impression on him.

I mostly apply these insights in my work, but not only in it. I see ‘Less is More’ as a kind of small guide to living, similar to what the Roman Stoics wrote thousands of years before us. On the other hand, ‘Let My People Go Surfing’ delivers a strong message to always be connected in spirit and passion with what you do, but also to always be ready for the possibility of signing off today and going surfing. I truly love to practice this, and I believe that such occasional escapes are crucial for a clear and clean mind that will be successful in business. Allowing yourself to do this, and then everyone around you, may be difficult at first, but in the long run, it is very inspiring and refreshing – Kordić is convinced.

Apology to Other Books

Moreover, he experiences reading as a form of hygiene: it is something that cannot be neglected. He compares it to walking or drinking enough water. For Kordić, books are often answers to questions and difficulties he faces, which are mostly related to work.

– Currently, I am in a phase where I am most suited to books that deal with seemingly trivial topics, which mean everything, for example, how to lead a good life. I read somewhere that this phase appears in the late thirties, so I guess it is normal. I would just add a kind of apology to all the other books that have touched me while I was reading them and that I thought of when preparing my selection. However, they did not find their place under this sun, but they surely know which ones they are, so they will forgive me. Because after all, less is more – says Zoran Kordić.
