American sticky facial strips, Frownies, were created over a hundred years ago, but they caught the public’s attention in 1950 when the brilliant Gloria Swanson applied them to her wrinkles in “Sunset Boulevard.” Despite being used by Swanson and many other Hollywood stars like Meryl Streep and Glenn Close, Frownies have only recently become a global sensation, thanks to TikTok. Users of the platform have discovered that applying strips over wrinkles has the same effect as Botox. The bad news is that it lasts a short time, but the good news is that there are no needles or trips to the clinic, and it costs only about twenty dollars. The strips are applied to the face (forehead, around the eyes, and nasolabial area) overnight, tightening and lifting the face, reducing the formation of overnight wrinkles, and releasing tension in the muscles.
Effect of the strips
TikTok users rave about waking up with less visible wrinkles and are not bothered that their face relaxes over time, with wrinkles becoming visible by the end of the day. Some users have concluded that Frownies Facial Patches help with headaches and even depression. Regarding headaches, experts from Healthline claim there is no evidence that it truly helps with severe pain or migraines, but it is possible that they manage to release tension in the muscles, thus alleviating pain and pressure. They hold the same view regarding depression – since they (temporarily) reduce wrinkles (for example, from frowning), the brain may receive a signal that, to put it simply, everything is okay. However, again, there is no concrete evidence for this. Thanks to TikTok, Frownies have received exceptionally valuable promotion and improved sales, but they are not the only product that temporarily smooths wrinkles. Just as these strips are an alternative to Botox, kinesiology and medical self-adhesive tapes are a decent alternative to Frownies.
