PMF opens its doors to students, teachers, and pupils as part of Financial Literacy Days

As part of Financial Literacy Days at PMF, on April 13, a presentation of the project Financial Literacy in Modern Mathematical Education will be held, led by professors Željka Milin Šipuš and Matija Bašić. The project is intended for students and mathematics teachers as well as end users – primary and secondary school students, and has resulted in new teaching materials for research-oriented mathematics teaching with a context that develops financial literacy for students from the 7th grade of primary school to the 4th grade of secondary school.

The project presentation is open to all interested citizens, and registration is required via a form. Lectures titled ‘What They Didn’t Teach Us in School’ and ‘What It’s Like to Be a Mathematician in the Financial Sector’ are also open to the general public.

The project benefits mathematics teachers who have been provided with preparatory materials for teaching mathematics in the area of financial literacy, which can also be used within the interdisciplinary theme of Entrepreneurship. However, the greatest value of the project will be felt by primary and secondary school students who will be provided with clearer and more applicable knowledge. This will contribute to a better understanding of financial terms crucial for responsible management of personal finances. Ultimately, the project also contributes to enriching study programs through the development of additional skills for students – future mathematics teachers, as well as strengthening the financial literacy knowledge of the general population, they state in the announcement.

Some of the concepts considered within the project include salary calculation, personal finance planning, saving, loan repayment, security in Internet banking, and similar topics, and in addition to improving the level of knowledge in the field of financial literacy, the project will contribute to the application of mathematics in practical life situations.

In addition to the aforementioned lectures and project presentation, workshops for primary and secondary school students will be held on Financial Literacy Days on April 13, while workshops for teachers and a detailed presentation of new teaching materials are scheduled for April 14. The Financial Literacy in Modern Mathematical Education project is financially supported by Addiko Bank.
