Minimum net earnings at Valamar this summer 1,000 EUR

The most desirable employer in Croatian tourism, Valamar Riviera, is investing an additional 20 million euros in employee earnings in 2023 and, in agreement with social partners, is increasing salaries in hotel operations, aligning earnings at Valamar for the main tourist season with European salaries.

Salaries paid at the peak of the season, specifically in June, July, and August for professional occupations – chefs, waiters, and receptionists in Valamar hotels, camps, and resorts will range from 1,200 to 1,800 euros net, while for housekeepers, assistant chefs, assistant waiters, kitchen workers, servers, and a number of others, it will range from 1,000 to 1,200 euros net. Additionally, from May 1, coefficients for as many as 129 job positions will increase, and the base salary will rise for 2,800 employees.

Valamar continues with a series of reward programs that particularly recognize excellence, commitment, and outstanding results. This confirms Valamar Riviera’s title as a TOP employer in tourism in Croatia, which it has held for many years.

– At Valamar Riviera, employee satisfaction is our top priority, which is why we continue this year with significant investments in programs that provide high earnings, attractive jobs, and career development in tourism. We are proud to offer the best working conditions in tourism and guarantee minimum net earnings of 1,000 to 1,800 euros for employees who will work during the summer months in hotels, camps, and resorts – emphasized Ines Damjanić, Vice President for Human Resources at Valamar Riviera.

To further improve the quality of life for employees in the destination where they work, Valamar continues to implement the ‘Live the Destination’ program, where all employees coming to work from other parts of Croatia are provided with quality accommodation and meals, as well as discounts at over three hundred sales points, and the opportunity to use entertainment facilities, excursions, and sports activities in the destination outside of working hours.

Valamar particularly stands out as a top employer in tourism through the Valamar House, providing quality accommodation and meals for seasonal workers during their stay in the destination. To date, over 19 million EUR has been invested in Valamar Houses across all destinations.

– The Valamar group made significant progress in material rights last year, especially at the end of 2022 when employees received a 13th salary, Christmas bonus, child gift, and in-kind gifts, and it has proven to be among the best companies, if not the best in tourism. Along with all previous rights, a correction of coefficients has been agreed upon from May 1 for a large number of job positions, as well as additional payments during the season, which is good news for Valamar employees. In a year marked by inflationary pressures and geopolitical uncertainty, further dialogue between unions and employers is important, and this step by Valamar represents a positive example for other companies – stated Marina Cvitić, President of the Union of Istria, Kvarner, and Dalmatia.

Valamar operates in eight destinations in Croatia from Istria to Dubrovnik and will employ nearly 8,000 employees this season. This year, Valamar continues to increase the number of employees with year-round jobs and earnings, planning to hire an additional 200 employees on indefinite contracts before the start of the tourist season. With the active employment policy measure ‘Permanent Seasonal Worker’ that Valamar implements in cooperation with the Croatian Employment Service, 1,000 employees are hired annually. Additionally, considering the expansion of operations to winter destinations, Valamar employees will be offered jobs during the winter in hotels at ski resorts in Austria after the summer.

– Along with the commendable progress that Valamar Riviera has made in employee earnings, we are aware of the constant growth of problems in tourism regarding finding quality labor, and we expect both the employer and the Government of the Republic of Croatia to work together to ensure conditions for further salary growth so that local workers, who are crucial for maintaining and enhancing service quality, are satisfied with their overall year-round earnings – stated Eduard Andrić, President of the Union of Tourism and Hospitality of Croatia.

Valamar is a company that prioritizes guests and employees and is recognized for the quality of service provided by its employees. According to a survey conducted by the portal Moj posao, with over 25,000 respondents, Valamar ranked 9th in 2022, jumping five places on the list of the best compared to the previous year, and for the fifth consecutive year, it is the only tourism company on the list of TOP employers in Croatia.

Job applications are already open, and all interested in working at Valamar can find them on their website.
