The Croatian Employers’ Association warns that closing stores in a year when we face recession may negatively impact employment, wage growth for employees, and encourage a decline in GDP.
As we have emphasized all along, restricting the work and working hours of entrepreneurs is contrary to the fundamental principles that the Croatian Employers’ Association and its members advocate, and we note that bans have never led to market development or positive impacts on the labor market.
We believe that the best option is to leave Sunday work to the discretion of employers while respecting all legal obligations and adequately compensating workers, and we emphasize that we are fundamentally opposed to interventions in the working hours of some entrepreneurs.
In conclusion, we support the amendments to the Law presented today in the part aimed at removing administrative barriers and reducing the costs of starting and conducting retail activities.
