One of the greatest Spanish fashion designers, the renowned Paco Rabanne, has passed away at his home in France at the age of 88. The company Puig, which owns the fashion brand and fragrance line, confirmed the sad news and stated that Paco Rabanne made transgression, or rather, fashion violations magnetically attractive.

– Who else could make Parisian women seek dresses made of plastic or metal? Who but Rabanne could imagine the scent Calandre or the ‘scent of a car grille’ and turn it into a symbol of modern femininity? – said the president of Puig’s fashion and beauty division, Jose Manuel Albesa, adding that Rabanne’s radical rebellious spirit made him unique.

Enfant terrible

He presented his first collection described as ’12 Unwearable Dresses in Contemporary Materials’ in 1966, and since he used unconventional materials like metal and plastic and ‘forced’ models to walk the runway barefoot, fashion connoisseurs and media immediately realized that a fashion ‘enfant terrible’ had arrived.

At the very beginning of his career, he designed jewelry for top fashion houses like Givenchy and Dior, and then began to build his own brand, launching not only fashion collections but also his own lines of perfumes. He withdrew from the fashion world in 1999, but he remains one of the most famous fashion designers of all time.
