Recorded Decline in Employment in Industry

The total number of employees in industry in December 2022 was 0.5 percent lower compared to November, and 0.3 percent lower compared to December 2021, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).

According to the National Classification of Activities, the number of employees in the manufacturing industry decreased by 0.5 percent on a monthly basis, while in mining and quarrying it decreased by one percent. At the same time, the number of employees in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning increased by 0.1 percent.

Within the manufacturing industry, the largest decline in the number of employees was recorded in the production of other non-metallic mineral products, by 3.4 percent, in textile production by 2.7 percent, and in the production of computers and electronic and optical products by 2.2 percent.

At the same time, the number of employees increased the most in the production of tobacco products and in metal production, by 1.1 percent each, in leather and related products by 0.9 percent, and in the production of coke and refined petroleum products by 0.8 percent.

On an annual basis, the number of employees in mining and quarrying decreased by 5.8 percent, in the manufacturing industry by 0.2 percent, while in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning it increased by 0.2 percent.

Within the manufacturing industry, the largest annual decline in the number of employees was recorded in the production of other transport equipment, by 19.6 percent, in the production of coke and refined petroleum products by 5.9 percent, and in furniture production by 4.3 percent.

The largest annual increase in the number of employees was registered in the production of motor vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers, by 33.4 percent, in printing and reproduction of recorded media, by 9.5 percent, and in other manufacturing industries by 7.4 percent.

The number of employees in industry throughout the past year decreased by 0.6 percent compared to the same period in 2021.

The total labor productivity in industry from January to December 2022 increased by 1.8 percent compared to the same period in 2021.

The total stocks of finished industrial products in the Republic of Croatia at the end of December 2022 increased by 3.2 percent compared to stocks at the end of November, and by 4.8 percent compared to stocks at the end of December 2021.
