Ronald McDonald House Launches Digital House on Roblox for Seriously Ill Children

The Swedish branch of the non-profit organization McDonald’s, Ronald McDonald Houses, has launched a digital house on Roblox to enable seriously ill children to socialize and connect with friends. The Ronald McDonald Houses organization has built houses in 45 countries around the world for parents and seriously ill children who have had to leave their homes due to hospital treatment.

The digital home is an extension of that idea and helps children stay connected with friends and meet other children in the virtual world who are battling serious illnesses and longing for their home, fun, socializing, and play.

Permanent Property

The house has been entirely designed with the help of children, so in the Ronald McDonald Roblox house, all four seasons exist simultaneously, along with a playground, sledding hills, and even a jumping area on clouds.

This project was realized in partnership with the marketing agency NORD DDB and the game-specialized company Karta, and as stated in a press release by the marketing director of Swedish McDonald’s, Staffan Ekstam, they are happy to contribute something that children will truly appreciate – their own house. Children from the ‘earthly’ Ronald McDonald houses can stay there, as well as their friends, and the company plans to regularly improve it and keep it as a permanent property in the Roblox metaverse.

Roblox is a virtual gaming platform where users can play existing games and design their own. Launched in 2006, it now has over 58 million daily users.
