Business banks do not charge a fee for exchanging kuna cash for euro cash if more than 100 kuna banknotes and 100 coins are exchanged in a single transaction, meaning that the exchange can be carried out without a fee for an unlimited number of pieces. Citizens can convert kuna cash to euros without any restrictions or fees by depositing money into their bank accounts at their business bank, where regulations aimed at preventing money laundering and financing of terrorism will apply, according to a statement from the Croatian National Bank (HNB).

In the branches of Fina and Hrvatska pošta d.d., during the first twelve months from the date of the introduction of the euro, cash currency exchange can also be conducted without a fee using a fixed conversion rate, but a fee will be charged if more than 100 banknotes and 100 coins are exchanged in a single transaction.

From January 1, 2024, banks, Fina, and Hrvatska pošta d.d. will cease to provide currency exchange services, and kuna banknotes and coins can only be exchanged at the HNB, also without a fee. The HNB will permanently exchange kuna banknotes, while coins can be exchanged within 3 years from the date of the introduction of the euro, until December 31, 2025.
