Messi’s Post from the World Cup Final is the Most Liked in Instagram History

Lionel Messi’s post holding the World Cup trophy has become the most popular photograph in Instagram history, surpassing the famous egg photo posted by Christ Godfrey in 2019 in terms of likes.

The egg once broke the record with 56.1 million likes, while the legendary footballer managed to gather over 64 million.

Shortly after winning the World Cup final, Messi took to Instagram and posted ten celebration photos from Qatar accompanied by the text: ‘World Champions! I dreamed about this often, I can’t believe it. Thank you to my family, everyone who supports me, and everyone who believed in us. We showed that we are capable of achieving what we set out to do. This is the strength of all who fight for the same dream. And this was the dream of all Argentinians. We did it! Let’s go, Argentina!’

In addition to on the field, Messi ‘defeated’ his rival Ronaldo with the photo in just 16 hours after posting. Ronaldo had posted a photo last month for a Louis Vuitton advertisement featuring him and Messi playing a game of chess. That post received 41.9 million likes, making it his most popular post ever.
