Twitter Users Decided: Musk Should Step Down as CEO

Will Elon Musk remain true to his words and step down from his position as the head of Twitter? This is the question currently on the minds of every user and follower of the American tech mogul. This weekend, Musk posted a poll on his Twitter profile asking whether he should resign from his position as CEO of the popular social network, noting that he would respect the users’ decision and act according to the poll results.

Voting on Twitter has concluded, and according to the results, Musk should step down from his position. Just over 17.5 million users participated in the poll, and 57.5 percent of them believe that Musk should leave the CEO chair.

Still the Owner

Since his takeover of Twitter in early November this year, Musk has been continuously followed by controversies, from firing employees to a drastic increase in hate speech on the digital platform. Last week, he surprised his followers once again by suspending the accounts of several American journalists who publicly criticized his work.

Furthermore, the self-proclaimed absolutist of free speech has also banned the promotion of other social networks via Twitter. Over the weekend, news spread that posts like ‘Follow me on Instagram’ will now be a violation of Twitter’s rules, and the same applies to Facebook, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Post, and Nostr.

Having taken over what was once the largest social network, now significantly lagging behind, say, TikTok or Instagram, Musk has also announced a ‘cleaning’ of Twitter from bots. Judging by the reactions of his followers after the informal poll was posted, bots could play a significant role in the results.

However, regardless of whether you voted ‘for’ or ‘against’ Elon Musk in the poll to remain as CEO, the fact is that he is still the main owner of the social network, regardless of who occupies the CEO chair. The second-largest investor in the company is Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud, and in third place is Qatar Investment Authority, which invested $375 million in the platform.

Interestingly, many social media users believe that they played a significant role in the posting of this poll, as it followed their meeting at the World Cup final.

Another major factor is the fact that Tesla’s shares have fallen 57 percent this year, amid growing concerns that the large acquisition of Twitter has distracted the American billionaire from the company that brought him to the position of the richest person in the world. However, last week, that title was ‘taken’ from him by Bernard Arnault, the CEO of the world’s largest luxury goods company.
